The Conversation

Heartbeats & Headshells was built from a life lived for music: digging through crates in record stores, launching a nightclub, nights lost in DJ booths, and years in hi-fi shops, behind the counter and out installing. We’ve been doing this since 1997, and count ourselves lucky for the friendships it brought: decades of them, with music people all across this world.

We care about music, intuitively, and the connections it creates. The gear earns its place by serving the music, and every piece here gets deliberate attention: chosen, positioned, listened to, and lived with before we put our name near it.

Some people arrive here with a lifetime of experience, some with a question they can’t quite word yet, so the work starts with listening. Sometimes to a record, always to you. We’ll sit with you, here or in your own space, and ask what you notice. Not what you’re supposed to notice, but what actually reaches you. How it lands, whether it grabs you or lets your whole system settle. Most people have never put words to that, and there’s no hurry. We sit with the music until it surfaces. You might be surprised by what does. Then we learn what grabs you, swap pieces, and listen again, until it’s built around you.

Here’s a question we ask a lot: what’s your favorite book? Now imagine every copy you’d ever read had words blacked out, pages missing, rewritten from someone’s memory of the original. Would you still have loved it? The system we build together is the original: every word, every page, all the punctuation. Music deserves to be heard that way. That’s where the connection lives.

What we bring is care: for the pieces we choose, for how they behave together in a real room, and for how the whole thing serves you, before it’s yours and long after. When we don’t know something, we say so, then go find your answer.
