The HP 700 SE uses an ECC82 and two EF800 tubes in its line stage, with a separate Phono RIAA board running ECC83, ECC81, and ECC88 tubes when installed. Its precision circuit spans a bandwidth to 1MHz, holds output resistance to 100 ohms, and measures 0.001% distortion.
Three selectable gain stages, 12dB Low, 18dB Med, and 25.5dB High, let you match the preamp's output to your amplifier's sensitivity. A magnetically shielded outboard power supply keeps the MC phono input quiet, and a logic-controlled input selector adds a multi-channel bypass for home theater integration.
The rear panel carries 3 RCA inputs, 2 XLR inputs, 2 freely selectable module slots, and an HT bypass input, alongside 2 RCA outputs, 1 XLR output, and a monitor/tape output. Optional additions include phono MC and MM input modules, a valve-based tone control unit, and a 47-position stepped attenuator for the volume control.
