The V 16 runs a KT120 tube per channel in a triode circuit for its single-ended Class A operation, with KT150, KT88, or 6550 tubes also compatible. Octave built a magnetic-field compensated output transformer specifically to address the bass rolloff single-ended designs usually suffer, keeping bandwidth linear down to 10Hz and extending it up to 100kHz on the top end.
An adaptive Class A bias circuit steps between 100% and 35% based on the load, whether that's a 4 or 8 ohm speaker or a pair of headphones, cutting operating temperature and extending tube life compared to a fixed-bias Class A design. Eco Mode further drops the Class A level to 35% during quiet passages and rises again when the signal returns.
Speaker output runs 2x8W RMS with a noise floor around -110dB at 1W into 8 ohms, roughly 15 to 20 microvolts at 50Hz. Two headphone outputs, a 6.3mm jack and a 4-pin XLR, both handle 8 ohm loads, and two RCA inputs plus one XLR input round out the connections; a regulated preamplifier output is available as a factory option.
