A redesigned driver stage, upgraded output transformers, a more sophisticated power transformer, and a new feedback loop separate the V 80 SE from earlier Octave all-in-one amplifiers. Running four KT88-S4A-Carbon tubes as standard, with KT150 TS tubes optional, output reaches 120W RMS per channel (150W peak) at 4 ohms across a 10Hz to 80kHz frequency response.
The headphone output uses a discrete amplifier circuit specified at under 0.008% distortion into 200 ohms, driven through a 6.3mm jack. BIAS adjusts in three steps via a small screwdriver at the front panel, a system precise enough that no measurement tools or technician are needed, which also makes swapping in different tube types simple.
Six line-level RCA inputs (one set as a bypass, one available as a phono input with the optional MC or MM board) join a single XLR input, with an adjustable preamp output, tape record output, and speaker terminals on the back. The Home Theater Bypass circuit lets the V 80 SE drive the front channels of a multichannel system, and a connection for the Black Box or Super Black Box adds power supply capacitance for harder-to-drive speakers.
