Billy Woodman founded ATC in 1974 to build drive units for the professional sound industry. Pink Floyd and Supertramp were early clients. The company still hand-builds its drivers, cabinets, and amplifiers at Aston Down in Gloucestershire, England. Two inventions define the sound: the SM75-150 soft dome midrange of 1976 and the Super Linear motor of 1996, which cut third-harmonic distortion by 10 to 15 dB. Studios at Sony Music use them. So does Coldplay. At home, that accuracy means you'll hear the mix exactly as the engineer signed off on it.
