Spencer and Dorothy Hughes combined their first names to found Spendor in 1969, after Spencer's years as an engineer in the BBC's sound department. Their BC1 monitor became a studio standard, and broadcasters worldwide mixed on it. The company still designs and hand builds its loudspeakers in the United Kingdom, and it still makes its own drive units and cabinets in-house, which almost no one else does. The LPZ tweeter, with its symmetrical pressure chamber, anchors the current A-Line, D-Line, and Classic ranges. It's honest, unforced sound with BBC accuracy built in.
