The MC A Mono is an Ortofon cartridge built for true mono playback. Playing a mono record with a stereo cartridge can't deliver identical signal in both channels, because of crosstalk, noise, phase error, tracking error, antiskating, and distortion. The MC A Mono avoids that by handling mono records directly, rather than relying on a stereo cartridge's mono switch.
