Technics is Panasonic's hi-fi brand, launched in Osaka in 1965 with a sealed 2-way speaker called the Technics 1. In 1970 it built the SP-10, the world's first direct-drive turntable, and in 1972 the SL-1200, which DJs kept in booths for 40 years. Panasonic revived the brand in 2014 with fresh engineering. Direct drive is still the calling card. Today that means Reference Class turntables, amplifiers, network players, and the AZ100 earbuds, and it's all tuned by engineers who treat music playback as the whole job.
