Peter Walker founded Quad in London in 1936 and moved it to Huntingdon in 1941, where the company still engineers amplifiers and speakers today. The BBC adopted Quad amplifiers in 1948. Then came the big one: the 1956 ESL, the world's first full-range electrostatic loudspeaker, a design audiophiles still argue nothing has bettered for midrange transparency. Quad's current dumping amplifier circuit earned a Queen's Award in 1975. Today's range spans the ESL 2812 and 2912 electrostatics, Artera and Platina electronics, and the new QUAD 3 integrated. It's 90 years of chasing the original sound.
