Two engineering students at Cambridge University started A&R Cambridge in 1976, and their first product, the A60 integrated amplifier, sold more than 30,000 units. Many still work. Arcam went on to build the first CD player designed and made entirely in the UK in 1986, then the Black Box of 1988, one of the first standalone DACs anywhere. Today's Radia series pairs amplifiers like the A25 with streamers and a CD player, all tuned in England. The house sound hasn't changed: clean and unforced, honest about what's on the recording.
