Rotel has been family owned since Tomoki Tachikawa founded it in Japan in 1961, and the Tachikawa family runs it still. The company winds its own toroidal transformers in its own factory, a habit almost nobody else keeps, and engineers every product under its Balanced Design Concept: parts that measure the same don't always sound the same, so they listen at every stage. The 1982 RA-820B amplifier made Rotel a budget hero. The Michi flagship line, reborn in 2019, shows what 60-plus years of that discipline sounds like at full stretch.
